CONSORTIUM

As you know, our aim here at Meraki is to make Erasmus+ projects as accessible as possible. We know that some of the terminology can make developing a project seem daunting. Likewise, a lot of the language is very specific and can be difficult to grasp. For that reason, we´ve created this series of blog posts that explain the terminology you need for Erasmus+ projects and make it all easy to understand.

Each week we will take one term and provide you with explanations and examples to make preparing your Erasmus+ project far easier. As a result, all you need to do is focus on developing that great idea  you have into a solid proposal.

For example, last week we looked at the term Key Action. We discussed what it means and why it’s important to understand when applying for funding. If you haven’t already read it, it’s definitely worth checking out!

This Week´s Term is CONSORTIUM

So, what exactly does that mean?

Well, a consortium is two or more participating organisations coming together and jointly working on the preparation, implementation and follow-up of a complete project or of a project activity. In fact, there are two different types of consortia in Erasmus+ projects:

  1.  Firstly, a consortium can be made up of participating organisations from the same country. This is a national consortium
  2. Secondly, a consortium can be made up of participating organisations from different countries. This is an international consortium.

Within this group of organisations, one of them is the coordinator. The coordinator is the one who submits the project on behalf of the consortium. Then, if they are successful, they participate in the preparation of the grant on behalf of the consortium, and maintain contact with the European Commission.

Details on the number and type of organisations that can participate in projects can be found in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide.

Well, we hope this has been useful for you!
