English Communicative Competence

DECCA (Developing English Communicative Competence through Art)

Hello, today we leave you the result of a European project: English Communicative Competence, that we found very interesting, DECCA (Developing English Communicative Competence through Art).

One of its developers (Norberto Ojeda Zamora) has passed us the materials in PDF to share them with all of you.

This is what European projects are and should be, free and useful for the whole community.
English teachers who are working in Arts & Crafts, take note.

English Communicative Competence

DECCA

Developing English Communicative Competence through Art is an educational approach that aims to develop English communicative competence through artistic activities.

Key features of English Communicative Competence:

  1. Interdisciplinary Approach: It uses artistic disciplines such as music, theater, dance, painting, and film to teach English. Through these activities, students not only learn vocabulary and grammar but also how to communicate effectively in cultural and artistic contexts.
  2. Experiential Learning: Students actively engage with the language while participating in creative activities. This allows them to practice English in a more dynamic and contextualized way, promoting natural language acquisition.
  3. Development of Communicative Skills: DECCA focuses on improving speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English, with a special emphasis on oral expression and listening comprehension, using art as a medium to encourage dialogue and interaction.
  4. Inclusion and Motivation: Through the arts, the DECCA approach creates an inclusive and engaging environment for all students, regardless of their English proficiency or cultural background. Creativity fosters participation and motivation, making the learning process enjoyable and meaningful.
  5. Strengthening Intercultural Competencies: By integrating art into language learning, students also explore different cultural contexts, allowing them to develop greater intercultural understanding and a more global communication ability.

This approach is used in various educational initiatives such as language immersion programs, cultural exchanges, and in the development of innovative curricula for language teaching
