The social circus as an engine for inclusion is a transformative reality. This approach allows people with disabilities to take a leading role. Furthermore, it improves their physical and social skills. The Aidemar association recently organized an incredible event in San Pedro del Pinatar. This milestone is part of the European Erasmus+ project. Different professionals and volunteers gathered to learn together.
Art as a tool for change
During three intense days, participants learned various disciplines. They practiced juggling, acrobatics, and balancing. Also, they explored the world of clowning and stage performance. The main goal was to learn new practical methodologies. These dynamics help the educational development of people with intellectual disabilities. For example, body expression strengthens personal confidence.
International cooperation for success
This initiative had several key partners. The Irish entity Galway Community Circus participated with great enthusiasm. In Spain, Meraki Projectes contributed its experience in cultural and social management. However, success would not be possible without the local community. The technical support from La Chimenea Escénica was fundamental. So, collaboration proved to be essential. Together we create a sustainable model of learning and growth. You can learn more about our approach on the Meraki Projectes services page.
Protagonists on stage
The event culminated at the Geli Albaladejo Theater. The users of the Aidemar Day Center shined as true artists. They performed the show ‘Circus4All’ in front of a dedicated audience. Therefore, they stopped being passive beneficiaries. They became creators and performers of a cultural proposal. Using the social circus as an engine for inclusion changes paradigms. It empowers participants directly and visibly.
Impact on the community
Performing arts promote social cohesion. In conclusion, culture must be completely accessible to everyone. European educational resources generate real opportunities for integration. We must keep supporting the social circus as an engine for inclusion in future projects. Alliances between local and international entities enrich citizenship.
